ENERGY STAR

• Defines the performance criteria that must be met for use of the ENERGY STAR certification mark.
• Requires clear and consistent labeling.
• Requires quarterly updates of test data and reports of all listed ENERGY STAR products.
• Specifies accredited laboratory test data reports for all certified lamps to ensure safety and performance test criteria.
• DOE only adds models to its Qualified product list after review and approval of the product test results and product packaging.

ENERGY STAR testing includes the following:

• Lumen maintenance-lumens must be > 80% of initial lumens at 40% of life
• Color rendering (CRI)-must be greater than 80
• Rated lamp life-must complete lifetime test to stated rated lamp life on packaging
• Warranty -must have warranty & method for complaint resolution on lamp package
• Minimum efficacy-varies by lamp
• Color temperature-must be 2700-3000 Kelvin unless otherwise stated on packaging
• Run-up time-must be < 3 minutes
• Starting time-must be less than 1 second
