After a little more than a year as an independent hotel, theHoliday Inn name is back on a 170-room downtown Rochester complex on South Broadway.
Crews began installing the green signs on the side of the hotel at 220 S. Broadway on Monday.
Since December 2010, this prominent downtown hotel has gone by the name of Rochester City Centre as an independent operation. It was a Holiday Inn Express hotel until its owner balked at upgrades to meet the hotel chain's revised standards.
After a few months without a brand, Mike Bhatka, who owns the hotel, came to an agreement withInterContinental Hotels Group to become a full-service Holiday Inn.
To qualify for that name, the hotel had to bring back amenities needed to be a full-service Holiday Inn rather than an "Express" property. That primarily meant bringing the bricked-over pool back to the surface and reviving the hotel's restaurant and bar.
Those features were shut down in 2005, when it was changed into a Holiday Inn Express by the hotel's former owner, Sunstone Properties Inc. Bhatka took control of the hotel in 2006.
Now the pool is full and the restaurant is preparing to launch under the guidance of Complete Hospitality Management, a team that is helping with the transition.
